Why I Created Expath?

Growing up in Taichung, I never had to think about how overwhelming everyday life could feel in a new country. It wasn't until I spent more than a decade living abroad that I experienced those challenges firsthand.

I learned how valuable it is to have someone who could answer the questions that online forums couldn't, explain how things really worked, and simply reassure you that you weren't navigating everything alone.

I realized that what people often need most isn't more information—it's someone they can trust.

When I returned to Taichung, I saw many people arriving here facing those same uncertainties.

That's why I created Expath.

If I can make someone feel a little more confident, a little less overwhelmed, and a little more at home in Taichung, then Expath has done exactly what it was created to do.

Meet Your Relocation Guide

Hi, I'm Jacob, the founder of Expath.

I was born in Taichung before spending more than 10 years living abroad in Vietnam and the United States. Returning home gave me a fresh appreciation for the city and inspired me to help others build a life here with confidence.

Before working in the real estate and international trade industries, I studied Industrial Design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Although my career has taken me in a different direction, that background taught me to approach problems with curiosity, empathy, and a user-first mindset. Today, I combine those experiences to help people navigate the practical side of relocating while also sharing the places, food, and neighborhoods that make Taichung such a great place to call home.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new food spots, staying active, and discovering hidden gems around the city. If we work together, there's a good chance I'll recommend a few of my favorite local spots along the way.
